Canine Meal Prep 101

We know it’s easy to feel guilty about neglecting your fur-baby while you’re at work, and they’re at doggie day care with us, but you can still show them your love and affection in other ways.

Apart from spending time with them before dropping them off and after picking them up, you can start preparing food for them too. It’s a great way to ensure that your dog is getting all their vital nutrients and still feeling loved and nurtured by you.

It also helps them stick to their regular diets, a practice we encourage with both daycare and boarding dogs, so you don’t have trouble when they return home.

What to feed your canine

Your dog needs a lot of nutrients and wholesome foods in their diet to make sure they’re healthy, fit, happy, and well-fed. Dogs can’t always eat a lot of food that we do, so don’t count on leftovers to get things going.

Instead, prepare easy but delicious and nutritious foods like lean chicken, ground beef, liver, fish, eggs, milk, and other dairy products like cheese and yogurt as staples. You can also throw in fruits and veggies if you steam them or cut them to be more edible. It’s surprising how much dogs enjoy eating vegetables like potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and carrots, among others.

You should focus on foods that they enjoy and that are good for them, not making them sick, and controlling their portions to avoid over and under-eating. Get recommendations from your vet for portion sizes and daily nutrient requirements if necessary.

How to prepare daily snacks

A great way to do this is by preparing foods during the weekend or when you’re free during the week and freezing or storing them away for future use. You can continue feeding them during dinner time, or lunch, and even breakfast, in addition to other snacks and treats.

One of the best things you can do is organize meals based on the day. So, for breakfast, something like kibble or vegetable puree will do, and then late lunch or early dinner can be something easy on their tummies.

Where we can help you out

It can be difficult to make sure your dog is regularly eating, especially when you don’t have time to make things work. This is why we’d love to help you by making sure any breakfast that you pack for your fur baby is fed to them while they’re at daycare.

You can pack their food and let us know, and we’ll be happy to feed them and keep you posted! Get in touch with us to know more about our doggie day care and boarding services in Chappell Hill.
